PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the stopping of a diesel engine due to some failure. SOLUTION: This control device comprises a main unit 11 which derives a common control value for controlling a common control target 6 common to each of a plurality of cylinders 4-1 to 4-n a diesel engine body 3 possesses, and a plurality of sub units 12-1 to 12-n corresponding to the plurality of cylinders 4-1 to 4-n at the ratio of 1:1. The sub units 12-1 to 12-n derive proper control values for controlling proper control targets 7-1 to 7-n unique to the respective corresponding cylinders 4-1 to 4-n. The diesel engine body 3 functions, for example, even if one cylinder 4-1 ceases to function. Such a distributed information processing unit can prevent the diesel engine body 3 from stopping even if any of the sub units 12-1 to 12-n is damaged. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
