PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facing material for a floor material or the like wherein an ornamental property equal to that of a conventional woody flooring material is provided, excellent waterproofing is provided not only on an upper surface of each facing material but also at a joint of mutual facing materials, and manufacture of the facing material itself and both of manufacturing and execution on an execution site are easy and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A waterproofing layer 2 by a thermoplastic resin made facing sheet or the like is provided on an upper surface 11 of a woody substrate 1. An edge part 13 between the upper surface 11 and a side surface 12 is pushed with a hard roll 3 and the like to execute chamfering 14. A compression part of the woody substrate 1 is formed along the chamfering part 14 to provide the facing material. Since the chamfering part 14 exposed to a joint part of mutual facing materials after execution is improved in waterproofing by compression of the woody substrate 1, swelling deterioration, mold, warp, blowing out of the waterproofing layer 2, exfoliation or the like due to infiltration of water therefrom are difficult to be generated, and the waterproofing is excellent to provide the facing material.
