<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter device in which the cost and loss can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: A serial resonance circuit has a first reactor L1 and film capacitors C3, C4. An output of a full-wave rectifier 12 is applied to one terminal of the resonance circuit. The resonance circuit is set to a resonance state, while first and second MOSFETs Q1, Q2 are alternately controlled on, off at a high speed by an oscillation controller 13, and hence a discharge lamp La is fired at a high frequency. First and second field capacitors C1, C2 are charged and discharged at a high speed, in association with switching of the first and second MOSFETs Q1, Q2 at a high speed. Thus, the output of the rectifier 12 is input repeatedly for the overall period of an AC voltage, while bidirectional currents are supplied to the resonance circuit, thereby improving an input power factor. Accordingly, this device performs not only as merely an inverter, but also achieves the role of improving the input power factor.
