PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a force sensor capable of accurately measuring applied pressure. SOLUTION: This force sensor is provided with an iron core 16 of which a part of the circumferential wall of a cylindrical body formed of a magnetic material is opened throughout the total length in its axial direction; a magnetostrictive member 11 housed in the iron core 16, having two mutually opposed surfaces 11b and 11c fixed to the inside surface of the iron core 16 and having a magnetic permeability varying corresponding to the applied pressure; an excitation coil 13 for generating magnetic flux in the iron core 16; and a sensing coil 15 for sensing the magnetic flux passing the iron core 16. Gaps 18 formed in the iron core 16 change in response to the pressure applied to the iron core 16. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
