PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polycarbonate excellent in quality by using a transesterification method having no environmental issue and excellent in economy. SOLUTION: In the method where an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a diester carbonate are transesterified in the presence of a catalyst to manufacture an aromatic polycarbonate, a reactor body, a mixture for reaction receiving pipe section, a by- product discharge pipe section and a polymerization mixture extraction pipe section are each covered with a heating medium jacket, and when for the temperature of at least one reaction unit, the internal temperature of the reactor body is set at t2 degree C, the internal temperature of a device of the mixture for reaction installed upstream is set at t2 degree C, and the internal temperature of a device of the polymerization mixtures installed downstream is set at t3 degree C, temperature of a heating medium inflowing in a jacket of the by-product discharge pipe section is set at a temperature between t1+5 degree C and t1+35 degree C, temperature of the heating medium inflowing in a jacket of the mixture for reaction received pipe section is set at a temperature between t2 and t1, and temperature of the heating medium inflowing in a jacket of the polymerization mixture extraction section is set at a temperature between t1 and t3.
