PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling heating position of heaters for heating the edge part of finish rolled strip is provided to enable the edge part of the finish rolled strip to be heated more accurately, prevent rolling defects on the edge part accordingly, improve actual yield and improve quality of product. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises first step (S41) of detecting a workpiece to be inputted; second step (S42) of calculating heating position of the workpiece by receiving workpiece data; third step (S43) of moving heaters to the calculated heating position as comparing the calculated heating position with currently measured heating position; fourth step (S44) of detecting a workpiece at the output side; fifth step (S45) of processing the shape data of the workpiece by receiving shape data of the workpiece; sixth step (S46) of calculating left width and right width of the workpiece from shape information of the workpiece, calculating each degree of partiality for the left width and right width of the workpiece, detecting deviation generated by comparing the respective degrees of partiality of the left width and right width of the workpiece with control value and calculating the deviation value; and seventh step (S47,S48) of controlling heating position of left or right heater based on the deviation value for the left width and right width of the workpiece.
