PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airway pressure monitoring device, especially for monitoring the airway pressure of a patient who is on an artificial respirator, which can monitor the airway pressure independently of the settings or the monitoring state of a monitoring function of the artificial respirator. SOLUTION: The airway pressure monitoring device for monitoring the airway pressure of a patient on an artificial respirator comprises a pressure measuring means for measuring the pressure of gas, such as air, supplied from the artificial respirator, to the patient and a means for determining whether the maximum pressure measured by the pressure measuring means is within a certain permissible range. The monitoring device is characterized by that it gives an alarm when the measured value surpasses the permissible range. The upper and lower limits of the permissible rage is preferably determined automatically. For example, the pressure of a respiration gas supplied from the artificial respirator to the patient is measured several times to obtain its average and the upper an lower limits is determined based on the average.
