Device for managing the memory of an electronic diary watch that comprises a non-volatile memory (15) linked to a processor (14) with touch sensitive keys (C1-7) for data and command input. The memory comprises static (100) and dynamic (101) zones. The position in memory of data files is controlled by the microprocessor, based on edited, deleted and created files. Each file has a header with two pointers linking it to preceding and subsequent files of the same type. File compression can be instigated automatically or manually. <??>An Independent claim is made for a method for managing the memory of an electronic diary watch with the following steps: recording in memory of data files of various types; compression of the files within the dynamic memory zone; and display on the watch LCD of the amount of memory used.
