PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable navigation apparatus which facilitates user's determination of a direction in which the user should proceed, on the basis of images of a route. SOLUTION: To a portable navigation apparatus provided with a display and a speaker means which outputs musical sounds, position information of a destination is inputted by an inputting means first of all. After that, images of a route for guiding a user through the route from a present position up to the destination, are displayed on the screen 24 of the display by a route guide means. An outputting condition for musical sounds is changed, according to the angle difference between the present direction of the destination and the present direction of the front part of a head part by a target direction guide means, and the direction of the sound image of a musical sound is so determined that the sound image is formed in the present direction of the destination.
