<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for an ester interchange reaction providing an excellent reaction yield and purity by which a catalyst can be separated extremely easily by washing with water, and the isolated catalyst can be recycled. <P>SOLUTION: An alcohol and a carboxylic acid ester are subjected to the ester interchange reaction in the presence of [A] a complex compound of (a1) a metal compound containing a transition metal or a metal atom belonging to the groups IIB, IIIA or IVA in the periodic table and (a2) a phosphonium compound having an anionic functional group, and the reaction product is washed with the water to separate the catalyst. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
