PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce total weight, noises and vibration generated during operation of a drum type brake apparatus by improving a backing plate used for the brake apparatus. SOLUTION: The backing plate used for the brake apparatus comprises a press plate (4) having sufficient strength, and a light screening plate (6) made of a material buffering or damping noises, vibration or the like. The press plate is installed on a part of a vehicle such as an automobile or the like, and is also engaged with a brake shoe so as to resist braking force. The screening plate is preferably formed by a steel material for damping. Thus, a speaker effect of the backing plate is reduced, and NVH such as noises, vibration and the like is entirely reduced.
