PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable display device provided with a protective plate for display part being replaceable by a simple method. SOLUTION: In the portable display device of a portable telephone set 10 or the like provided with a display part 15, a housing (first housing) 11 having an opening 12 for display part and a protective plate 16 located on the side of a display screen 15a of the display part, a groove part 13 extended along the opening terminal of the opening 12 of the housing is provided (a), the housing 11 can be divided into a main body part 11a for housing the display part 15 and a cover part 11b detachable from the main body part 11a together with one part of the groove part 13 (b), and the protective plate 16 can be held on the housing 11 by fitting its edge to the groove part 13 freely slidably and can freely be attached to and detached from the main body part 11a when the cover part 11b of the housing is separated from the main body part 11a (c).
