PURPOSE: To provide a new thiol compound which is useful as the raw material of optical materials having a high refractive index and Abbe's number, and also provide a method for producing the compound efficiently. CONSTITUTION: The thiol compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein n is 1 or 2) is produced via 1,3,5-trithiane having simultaneously a methylene or vinyl group at 2-, 4- and 6-positions as the intermediate.
