Disclosed is an apparatus for disintegrating bales of agricultural material such as hay. The apparatus has a chassis 3 with a bale receptacle 1 mounted thereon. A disintegrator 17 is mounted in the bale receptacle 1 and is adapted to disintegrate baled crop material in the bale receptacle 1 and discharge the processed baled material out of the bale receptacle. A manipulator 22 is mounted in the processing tub above the disintegrator 17 adapted to manipulate the bale crop material in the bale receptacle 1 to expose different parts thereof to the disintegrator 17 and a passive support means 27 is provided in the bale receptacle above the disintegrator 17. The manipulator 22 and passive support means 27 are positioned on opposing sides of the disintegrator 17 to facilitate maintenance of the baled crop material above the disintegrator such that the disintegrator 17 engages the baled crop material between the manipulator 22 and the passive support means 27. In an embodiment of the invention, the bale receptacle coomprises a tub with a discharge opening 13 provided in one of the side walls 11 thereof which is detachably mounted to the chassis 3 such that the discharge opening 13 can be positioned on either the left or right hand side of the chassis 3. In another embodiment, the invention also provides a flail roller 17 design that reduces the adverse consequences of back slap of the flails 19 and a manner of mounting the flail roller 17 that reduces the stresses on the bearings 21. |
