PURPOSE: A vane supporting device for a hermetic compressor is provided to reduce the axial length of the compressor by decreasing the gap formed between the motor unit and the compressor unit. CONSTITUTION: A vane supporting device comprises a rotating shaft(4) coupled with a rotor(Mr) of a motor unit; a swash plate(5) coupled with the rotating shaft in a cylinder(2) such that the internal space of the cylinder is divided into a plurality of closed spaces(S1,S2); a plurality of vanes(6A) contacting both sides of the swash plate, and which reciprocate in an axial direction during the rotation of the rotating shaft and converts each closed space into a suction area and a compression area; and a torsion coil spring(11) having an end contacting the cylinder, the other end contracting the vanes, and an intermediate portion with a coil portion for elastically supporting the vanes; and a supporting member for fixing the torsion coil spring to the cylinder.
