FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing reduction and melting in shaft furnace provided with detachable hearth, which is preliminarily filled with red hot coke; moving hearth under furnace shaft and hermetically connecting with it; maintaining temperature in hearth below melting temperature of iron and nickel particles produced in the process of reduction for performing direct-process iron manufacture during which slag is discharged; upon termination of process, separating hearth from furnace shaft and extracting nickel-containing alloy in the form of direct-process iron.
