The connection method involves the use of a signal supplied to the lamp (8',8'',8''') from the electronic ballast circuit (1) before connection of the lamp supply, with evaluation of a response signal provided by the lamp, for identification of the lamp type and operation of the electronic ballast circuit appropriate to the lamp. An Independent claim of an electronic ballast circuit arrangement for operation of a lamp is also included.
