PURPOSE:To improve a contrast by forming color filters on a front side substrate, forming a reflection layer on a rear side substrate, sealing liquid crystals and photopolymn. type high-polymer precursors between these substrates and polymerizing the high-polymer precursors by polymerizing light. CONSTITUTION:Signal electrodes 13, an insulating layer 12 and reflective electrodes 7 are formed on the substrate 8 and the polymerizing light transmittable color filters 11 are formed on the substrate 1 on the side facing the substrate 8. The transparent electrodes 2 are formed by vapor deposition thereon. A mixture composed of 95wt.% liquid crystals, 3.4wt.% terphenyl methacrylate, and 1.6wt.% terphenyl dimethacrylate is sealed between these substrates. Further, the high-polymer precursors are irradiated with the polymerizing light (300 to 400nm) from the substrate 1 side and are thereby polymerized. Next, the surface of such display device is subjected to a non-glare treatment and antireflection treatment, by which the display device is completed. Red, green and blue are displayed when an electric field is impressed to the display device. Lightness is degraded and dark display is attained when the electric field is removed. |
