PURPOSE: A mobile terminal, a controlling method thereof, and a personal information protecting system using same are provided to prevent a leakage of personal information stored in the mobile terminal by efficiently deleting the personal information stored in the mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(180) sets the operation mode of a mobile terminal as a first lock mode in response to a wipe push command received from an external server through a wireless communications unit. According to a status before the wipe push command is received, the control unit sets the status of the terminal after rebooting as either a second lock mode or a factory reset mode. The mobile terminal is rebooted according to a factory reset in the first lock mode. The control unit deletes personal information stored in the memory in the first lock mode in response to the wipe push command.
