PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display technique having a back illuminator featuring high luminance, decreased uneven luminance and ease of assembly. SOLUTION: Photodirectional diffusion elements, such as hologram elements, are formed near light sources on the top surface of a light transmission plate 2 or the under surface of the light transmission plate and a plurality of dots consisting of small projecting parts or small recessed parts for changing the light from the incident surface atop the light transmission plate to prescribed angles are formed on the top surface of the light transmission plate or the under surface of the light transmission plate so that the display element can be irradiated with the light.
