METHOD FOR IMPROVING GRAY SCALES OF VIDEO AND VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE PERFORMING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A method for improving gray scales of a video and a video display device performing the same are provided to increase the number of gray scales and uniform luminance levels of the gray scales, thereby improving the quality of pictures. CONSTITUTION: Luminance levels of a video displayed on a liquid crystal panel are measured by changing liquid crystal driving voltages by frames(10-12). One luminance level section to be needed to improve gray scales is decided among the measured luminance levels(14). Increasing and decreasing new liquid crystal driving voltages are generated centering on the liquid crystal driving voltage contributed to a lowest luminance level in the decided luminance level section, dividedly according to a first field and a second field(16). New luminance levels are obtained by using the new liquid crystal driving voltages(18). A valid first luminance level is selected among the luminance levels(20). It is judged whether the gray scale of the video is improved by the first luminance level(22).
