PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an optimum feedwater control for the steam boiler even in the presence of changes in the operating state. SOLUTION: In this method of feedwater control for the steam boiler, the start and stop of a feedwater pump 3 is controlled by a level detecting element 5 provided in a water tube 4, and, when the element 5 fails to detect the water level and the pump 3 is to be started after a specified time period, the period is determined according to the operating state of the boiler.
