The protective cushion for the lap strap crossing the abdomen of pregnant women locates between the abdomen of the woman and the lap strap of a conventional three-point seat belt system. The lap strap is fastened on the outer side of the cushion. The structure of the cushion is part elastic so that on one hand there is no unpleasant feeling on the abdomen when wearing the seat belt, and on the other hand a positive protection exists in the event of a car crash. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a removable and washable cover for the protective cushion; (b) a reinforcement on the protective cushion; (c) a foldable side extension for the protective cushion; (d) a method of fastening the lap strap to the protective cushion.
