Method for preparing crosslinked ion exchangers from unsaturated aliphatic nitriles

Production of an ion exchanger comprises: (a) polymerizing an unsaturated aliphatic nitrile with a di- or polyvinyl ether crosslinker in suspension in the presence of an initiator and a protective colloid by a method other than a seed/feed method; and (b) functionalizing the resulting polymer beads. Independent claims are also included for; (1) Polymer beads produced by step (a); (2) Use of the polymer beads as adsorption resins; and (3) Ion exchangers produced by steps (a) and (b).
