PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that avoids feeding to a rear curtain drive means when a prescribed shutter control mode is selected so as to suppress consumption of a power supply battery and increase the number of photographable frames and that prevents a shutter from being damaged when a shutter rear curtain is driven during cleaning of a foreign material deposited in the vicinity of an imaging device. SOLUTION: When the prescribed shutter control mode is selected, a mirror drive means sets a mirror to an object imaging position and power is fed only to a shutter front curtain drive means to activate a shutter front curtain and set the shutter to an opening state (S303 to S307) thereby releasing the prescribed shutter control mode. Thus, the mirror is returned to the object observing position and a charge means restores the shutter front curtain to an initial state (S309 to S313).
