The disk-shaped optical data carrier has a first surface (20), a second surface (22), a CD information layer (24) on which CD-standard data is stored, and a DVD information layer (30) on which DVD-standard data is stored. A first reading light (42) which captures the CD information layer (24) enters the data carrier by the first surface (20). A second reading light (44) which reads the DVD information layer (30) enters the data carrier by the second surface (22). The DVD information layer (30) is located approximately in the middle between the first and the second surface (20,22). The CD information layer (24) is located in the direct vicinity of the second surface (22). The CD reading light (42) which reads the CD information layer (24) runs through the DVD information layer (30). The DVD reading light (44) which reads the DVD information layer (30) runs through the CD information layer (24). The CD information layer (24) is partially permeable with respect to DVD reading light (44) and the DVD information layer (30) is at least partially permeable with regard to CD reading light (42).
