PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement type hydraulic rotary machine capable of stably holding its swash plate in the maximum and the minimum tilting position and allowing enhancement of the processing easiness. SOLUTION: The hydraulic rotary machine comprises swash plate, a casing, and a tilt support member 30, wherein the swash plate supporting surface 27 formed on the body 12 of the casing is composed of a first supporting surface portion 28 whereto a first abutting surface 24 of the swash plate 22 abuts and a second supporting surface portion 29 whereto a second abutting surface 25 of the swash plate 22 abuts, while the tilt support member 30 is installed apart from the intersection of the first and second surface portions 28 and 29 of the swash plate supporting surface 27, being positioned on the side with the second surface portion 29. This allows the swash plate 22 to be formed thin, lessening of the distance between a flat and smooth surface 23 and the center A of the tilt support member 30, suppressing a large variation of the distance between the acting point of the pressure resultant F from the pistons 20 on the swash plate 22 and the center A of the tilt support member 30, and holding the swash plate 22 stably in the maximum and the minimum tilting position.
