The mechanism comprises a rectangular C-shaped catch (3) pivoted to the back (9) of a moving component (1), e.g. a sliding drawer in a piece of furniture, which can be moved on castors. A moulded plastics bracket with a cam (6) is fastened to the back panel (12) of the piece of furniture. The cam has upper and lower sloping surfaces (16,18) and a rear surface (17) with a recess to hold the catch. The catch has a spring strip (5) which presses against its upper and lower surfaces and tends to hold it in a neutral position. The back panel has a spring (7) which pushes the drawer open when the catch is released. When the drawer is closed the catch rides up the upper sloping surface (16) of the cam and engages with the recess in its rear surface, holding the drawer securely in place while the piece of furniture is used. A second pressure on the front of the drawer causes the catch to disengaged from the cam and slide along its lower surface (18), allowing the drawer to open. |
