PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a rubber composition on the ice and the wet performance thereof by incorporating efficiently expanded thermally expansive microcapsules into a rubber composition. SOLUTION: In a process (i) for producing a rubber composition containing a rubber, silica, a silane coupling agent, thermally expansive microcapsules and a vulcanization system, the rubber is mixed with components except the thermally expansive microcapsules and the vulcanization system in two or more steps (at least the rubber, the silica and the total amount of the silane coupling agent blended are mixed in the first step), mixed with remaining amounts of the components except the thermally expansive microcapsules and the vulcanization system, and finally mixed with the thermally expansive microcapsules and the vulcanization system. In a process (ii) for producing a rubber composition containing a rubber and thermally expansive microcapsules, the surface of the microcapsule is previously coated with an oily substance.
