PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the numbers of parts and assembling processes for a paper feeder having an arm rockingly mounted on a rotating shaft of a separate roller and a pickup roller provided at the end of the arm. SOLUTION: A driving gear 13 for driving the pickup roller 20 is arranged with its axis corresponding to the axis of the pickup roller 20 and the rotating shaft 15 to be fixed to the pickup roller 20 and the driving gear 13 are connected to each other via a spring clutch 10. The spring clutch 10 cuts off the transmission of torque to the pickup roller 20 when the certain or more torque is applied to the driving gear 13. Furthermore, a compression spring 8 for producing friction between the driving gear 13 and the arm 4 is arranged overlying outside or inside the spring clutch 10.
