FUEL OIL ADDITIVE AND FUEL OIL COMPOSITION

A novel fuel oil additive which comprises a nitrogen−containing compound represented by the following formula (1): (1) wherein A represents an alkylene group having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, a is an integer of 1 to 20, and R represents an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The fuel oil additive is excellent in the detergency for the inside of the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, for example, of a direct injection type gasoline engine, in particular, the inside of a cavity and also in that for the injection nozzle of a diesel engine, and the additive itself is not converted to a sludge.
