A composite optical element,comprising at least one optical element(2)installed on one surface of a substrate(1),a semiconductor laser(3)and a light receiving element(4)installed on the other surface of the substrate(1),and an intermediate member(relay substrate)(5)installed between the substrate(1)and the light receiving element(4),wherein the intermediate member(5)further comprising a through−hole(6)allowing a light flux incident on the light receiving element(4)to pass therethrough and conductive portions,wherein the terminal of the light receiving element(4)is connected to a conductor pattern on the substrate(1)through the conductive portions.
