PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing a polarizer consisting of a polyvinylalcohol film having a high polarization degree and high transmittance. SOLUTION: The polarizer is manufactured by subjecting a non-stretched polyvinylalcohol film to dry uniaxial stretching by <=4 times of stretching ratio, then to dyeing and further to uniaxial stretching in a boron compound by <1.5 times of stretching ratio.
