PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new carbonate compound having good hydrolytic stability, which can be used as a highly biodegradable nonionic surfactant. SOLUTION: This new carbonate compound is represented by formula (I) [wherein, R<1> is a 4-32C hydrocarbon, A is a reside of polyalcohol having a valence of (m) (m>=3), (n) is an integer of 1 to (m-1)].
