PURPOSE: A high speed running-control device of VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to minimize friction load between a drum and a tape by changing the rotating direction of a drum motor when the tape of the VCR plays at high speed. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling high speed playing of a VCR comprises a capstan motor(33) installed in the playing path between a supply reel(31) and a winding reel(32), to supply power for the playing of a tape(30); a drum(34) joined with a head reading data recorded on the tape; and a drum motor(35) to rotate the drum forward or backward according to a high speed playing mode or a rewind mode. The drum motor includes a switch(SW1) and a switch(SW2), to reverse two phase voltages of the drum motor in the rewind mode.
