The aim of the invention is to provide a novel method for humidifying respiratory air. To this end, the invention provides that the supply quantity is delivered from the water supply chamber (9) to the evaporation chamber (20) in free fall. A suitable air humidifier for a respiratory device is provided for this purpose. Said air humidifier excludes any heating of the water supply, which enables the humidifier to function at full capacity a very short time after being switched on, and is simple to handle. The air humidifier has an upper water-bearing supply chamber (9) and a lower water-bearing evaporation chamber (20), between which an air shaft (18) is located. Said shaft has an air nozzle (17) at its upper end, the diameter of the air nozzle determining the outward flow of the water, and is kept open at its lower end. The air shaft extends as far as the water level (19) and has a water nozzle (16) whose outlet opening is located at a height between the water level (19) and the air nozzle (17) in the in-use position. |
