PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic optical fiber having low transmission loss and excellent mechanical properties such as durability against repeated bending. SOLUTION: The plastic optical fiber has a core made of methyl polymethacrylate and a first clad and a second clad concentrically formed in layers around the core. In this fiber, a copolymer having a specified composition containing a long-chain fluoroalkylmethacrylate unit (A) expressed by general formula (I), a short-chain fluoroalkylmethacrylate unit (B) expressed by general formula (II) and a methyl methacrylate unit (C) is used for the first clad. A copolymer having a specified composition consisting of a vinylidene fluoride unit, a tetrafluoroethylene unit and a hexafluoropropylene unit is used for the second clad. In formula (I), m represents 1 or 2 and n represents an integer of 5 to 12. In formula (II), X represents a hydrogen atom or a fluorine atom and m represents an integer of 1 to 4. |
