PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus and a power consumption control method by which power consumption is reduced furthermore. SOLUTION: In the electronic apparatus which can operate by both a secondary battery chargeable as a power source for operation and an external power supply unit, it is detected whether or not the external power supply unit is connected to an external power source, and it is detected whether or not a switch for turning on/off the operation of the electronic apparatus is in an off state. An MPU for controlling the apparatus checks a charging state of the secondary battery on the basis of the detected results and controls in accordance with the charging state to turn on/off a semiconductor switch set to an input part for power to be supplied from the external power supply unit so as to charge the secondary battery with the use of a charging control circuit which charges the secondary battery with the use of power supplied from the external power supply unit.
