PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polylactic acid-based biodegradable resin composition which gives molded articles, such as films, having large tear strengths and large tensile strengths, and to provide a polylactic acid/starch-based biodegradable resin composition having high biodegradability by further compounding a modified starch having good compatibility with the polylactic acid-based composition. SOLUTION: (1) The highly strong biodegradable resin composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of polylactic acid, 0.5 to 5 pts.wt. of a sugar alcohol and 1 to 10 pts.wt. of a benzoic acid compound. (2) The highly strong biodegradable resin composition according to (1), wherein a modified starch obtained by compounding starch, a plasticizer and water is compounded in an amount of 50 to 230 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the polylactic acid.
