PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structurally simple tensioner that ensures a large adjustment allowance. SOLUTION: A support member 28 is turnably pivoted on a pivot 26 exposed on a centerline P connecting rotation centers of a roller sprocket 16 and an idle sprocket 18. On the support member 28, pressing members 30 are rotatably pivoted in equidistant positions on opposite sides of the pivot 26. One pressing member 30 is set for externally abutting on one travel path 22a of an endless chain 22, and the other pressing member 30 is set for externally abutting on the other travel portion 22b of the endless chain 22. A normal or reverse turn of the support member 28 on the pivot 26 by a turning means 38 swing the pressing members 30 about the pivot 26 to adjust tension applied to the endless chain 22.
