PURPOSE: An automatic routing method according to IP(Internet Protocol) network states and a device therefor are provided to automatically changes a routing path or changes a connection to PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) according to the network states, so as to adjust tone quality. CONSTITUTION: An originating user selects a call mode(S101) to select whether to perform the call through an Internet network using LAN or through PSTN(S102). If the originating user selects PSTN, a general call process is performed(S103). If the originating user selects LAN, a call through the Internet network is connected(S104) and a LAN monitoring mode is started(S105). Voice data are inputted from the originating party through a phone(S106), and whether a monitoring information message is received from a data receiving party in a predetermined time T1 is checked(S107). The main controller checks whether fault information exists in the monitoring information message(S108). If the monitoring information message is for a compression rate change, the main controller commands the change of a voice compression rate to a media controller(S110). If the monitoring information message is for fault generation, whether a LAN fault message is received N times continuously is checked(S110). If so, the main controller suspends the LAN monitoring mode and informs the originating user of the LAN fault(S111), then inquires of the originating user of whether to end the call(S112). If not, whether to select a LAN call mode or a PSTN call mode is inquired of the originating user(S113). If the originating user selects the LAN call mode(S114), the main controller selects a new routing path to re-originate a call(S116) and the step S105 is returned. If the originating user selects the PSTN call mode, the main controller ends the LAN monitoring mode(S115) and performs a general call process through the PSTN(S103).
