The invention relates to a method and a device for direct digitization of microwave signals (6) reflecting on a surface (8) for a filling product (7) located in a container (1). According to one aspect of the invention, the frequency of the microwave signals (6) reflecting on the surface (8) for the filling product are constantly scanned in accordance with the inventive method and the resulting analog values are converted into digital values, wherein successive digital values are stored in different buffer storages (16a, 16b) and the buffer-stored digital values are read out from said buffer storages (16a, 16b) and stored in an end storage unit (17; 17a, 17b) that is accessed by an evaluation unit (18) for determining the level of filling.
