PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means that can automatically discriminate the presence/ absence of unwanted lightness changes such as a flickering in a moving picture or the mode with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A computer first calculates average lightness of each frame, obtains a moving average in time base as to each frame and generates reference lightness data (moving average lightness). Then the computer generates difference data between the average lightness and the moving average lightness, and divides the difference data into groups on the basis of the sign. Furthermore, the presence/absence of an unwanted lightness change or the mode can be discriminated with high accuracy, on the basis of grouped difference data.
