PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stud welding method which is little in welding distortion and makes stud welding possible even with design thin sheets. SOLUTION: This stud welding method comprises welding a stud 4 to a member 1 to be welded by gripping the stud 4 to an upper electrode 4, pressing the stud to the surface of the material 1 to be welded, providing the rear side of the material 1 to be welded with a lower electrode 3 and passing an electric current from the upper electrode 2. The welding is performed while both surfaces of the material 1 to be welded are restrained by planar restraining members 5 and 6.
