PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a device by reducing a free space. SOLUTION: The projector is provided with an illuminator to emit illuminating light, a color separating optical system to separate the illuminating light into light beams in three colors, three optoelectronic devices to emit the light beams in three colors made incident from the color separating optical system as converted light beams in three colors which change according to a chrominance signal corresponding to each light beam, a color compositing means which has two crossing dichroic surfaces and composites the converted light beams in three colors emitted from the three optoelectronic devices to emit a composite light beam representing a color image, and an optical system for projection to project the color image represented by the composite light beams. The color separating optical system is provided with an optical separation means at a position opposite to the color compositing means to the second optoelectronic device. The optical separation means separates the illuminating light incident on the optical separation means from the illuminator into illuminating light which directly advances as it is, and illuminating light which is orthogonal to the above illuminating light and advances in the direction of the second optoelectronic device. |
