PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a group of metallic grains with a protective film, which has little variation in grain sizes, and a group of metallic grains with desired grain sizes in the order of nanometers. SOLUTION: Quaternary ammonium salt is added to a two phase system of a chloroauric (III) acid aqueous solution and toluene, and chloroauric (III) ions are moved to a toluene phase. Dodecanethiol is added to the toluene phase, and the chloroauric (III) ions are reduced, and a solvent is removed. The obtained solid matter is heated at a temperature higher than the melting points of dodecanethiol and quaternary ammonium salt and also lower than the boiling points thereof, and the quaternary ammonium salt is thereafter removed.
