An information processing apparatus for successively reading out and executing programs stored in the storage means.The apparatus includes a program counter for outputting to the storage means an address for reading out a program,an instruction decoder for decoding an instruction read from the storage means according to a control signal indicating whether the time interval is a period when the number of code types used in any of the fields constituting the instruction in the program is limited to a predetermined number,and controllable means for performing the processing according tot the decoding result output from the instruction decoder.The instruction decoder has a reconfigurable circuit for modifying the circuit configuration according to a control signal,so that decoding is performed according to the relationship between the coding and decoding result of the field which relationship is set so that the bit value of the field where the number of code types used is limited changes less number of times.
