PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network system that ensures security under a LAN environment, and to provide its authentication method and its program. SOLUTION: A switching hub 2 acquires an authentication frame, sent from a terminal 1 and inquires of an authentication server 5 about the authentication of the terminal 1, by using an authentication packet generated by copying frame contents. The authentication server 5 retrieves whether or not a MAC address included in the authentication packet exists in an authentication database 51. When the authenticating method adopts a password and the password included in the authentication packet is correct, the authentication server 5 returns an authentication packet (OK) to the switching hub 2, and when no MAC address exists in the authentication database 51 and the password is incorrect, the terminal returns an authentication packet (NG), to notify the fact of use by an unauthorized user. Then security under the LAN environment, such as Ethernet (R), can be ensured. |
