PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a polymer, good in compatibility with a surfactant and an alkali agent, etc., contained in a liquid detergent, and excellent in basic performance as a builder. SOLUTION: A monomer mixture composed of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and a monoalkoxy polyalkylene oxide, are reacted at 180-270 deg.C to form this polymer.
