Amido-substituted cyclohexenes (I), in which the amido group is derived from a (cyclo)aliphatic or (hetero)aromatic carboxylic, sulfonic, carbamic or carbonic acid, are new. Amido-substituted cyclohexenes of formula (I), in which the amido group is derived from a (cyclo)aliphatic or (hetero)aromatic carboxylic, sulfonic, carbamic or carbonic acid, are new. R<2> = RxCO-, RxSO2-, (Rx)2NCO- or RxOCO-; Rx = H or a 1-24 C aliphatic, branched aliphatic, cycloaliphatic group or substituted 5-7 membered heteroaromatic group, optionally with N, O or S atoms in the ring and condensed aromatic, heteroaromatic and/or aliphatic rings, any of which may be substituted by X; X = H, Ra, 1-8 C alkenyl, 1-8 C alkynyl, OH, NH2, SH, NO, NO2, ORa, phenyl (Ph), OPh, SRa. NHRa, N(Ra)2, NH-CO-Ra, F, Cl, Br, I, CN, COOH, CHO, CO-Rb, SO3H, SO2-Rb, SO-Rb, CF3, COO-Ra, CONHRa, COO-Ph, PO-Ph2, PO(Rc)2, PO3H2, PO(ORb)2 or SO3-Rc; Ra = 1-8 C alkyl; Rb = 1-6 C alkyl; Rc = 1-4 C alkyl; R<1>, R<7>, R<8>, R<9> = H or 1-36 C aliphatic, branched aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic groups or substituted 5-7 membered heteroaromatic group, optionally with N, O or S atoms in the ring and condensed aromatic, heteroaromatic or/and aliphatic rings, any of which may be substituted by X; R<3>, R<5> = H, aryl, heteroaryl, CN, COOH, CHO, CORb, SO3H, SO2ORb, SO2-NHRb, SO2-Rb, SO-Rb, CF3, COORa, COOPh, CONHRa, CON(Ra)2, POPh2, PO(Rc)2, PO3H2, PO(ORb)2, NO2 or together are linked by C, N, S or O atoms to form a ring; and R<4>, R<6> = R<1> or together are linked by C, N, S or O atoms to form a ring.
